Terms
Last updated 3 October 2026
Draft. This page hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer yet and may change before the acquisition service opens. Questions: hello@wantdot.com.
1. Who we are
WantDot (wantdot.com) is run by its founder, Privilege Mendes, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is not part of any registrar, registry or domain marketplace. You can reach a person at hello@wantdot.com, and we send our postal address on request.
You agree to these terms when you confirm an email from us, make an offer, claim a domain or pay for a service, whether on the site or through an AI assistant connected to WantDot.
2. Domain information
Domain pages and lookups show public information: registration records, DNS, the site the domain points to, and marketplace listings. We check it automatically and it can be out of date or wrong.
Any price range, estimate or comparison is an opinion, not a valuation you can rely on, and never legal or financial advice. Check what matters to you before you pay for anything.
3. Watching a domain
Watching is free. You confirm by email before anything starts, and every watch email has a link to stop.
If you set a private maximum (“I'd pay up to”) and the owner's price is at or below it, we send the owner an offer for you: halfway between the two numbers, or the owner's public price if they set one. Neither side ever sees the other's private number. An offer made this way follows section 5, so only set a maximum you'd really pay.
4. Claiming a domain
Only the domain's registrant, or someone they've authorised, may claim its page. We verify a claim through the registration email or a DNS record, and we re-check it regularly. If the registration changes or the proof disappears, we remove the claim and its listing.
As the owner, you decide whether the page says the domain is for sale and whether a price is shown. Owners never pay WantDot a commission.
5. Offers to an owner
An offer isn't binding on either side. A sale only happens when both of you agree to a transaction on Escrow.com, which needs a free Escrow.com account with an identity check. Escrow.com's own terms apply to that transaction.
If a deal closes, the buyer pays WantDot $149, or 1.5% of the whole price if it is over $10,000, plus Escrow.com's fee. The owner pays nothing. If no deal closes, nobody pays us anything.
WantDot never holds money. We pass messages between the two sides without showing either one the other's email address.
6. The acquisition service (“We get it for you”)
Not open yet. At launch it is only for buyers in the United States. When it opens, these terms apply, and we'll confirm the fees with you before you pay. If you joined the waitlist before we open, the start fee and success fees shown on the site when you joined apply to your first deal.
You pay $49 to start. We refund it if we miss either deadline: your valuation report within 2 business days, and the first message to the owner within 5 business days. Otherwise it isn't refundable: it pays for the research, whether or not the owner sells.
The success fee depends on the limit you set at the start (see pricing). It is fixed before we contact the owner and you pay it only if the domain becomes yours.
We never offer more than your limit. Every price is subject to your approval: you accept the price, then you and the owner both agree to the transaction on Escrow.com. We never name you to the owner unless you ask us to. Every message we send says it comes from an AI agent acting for a buyer, and at launch a person reviews each one before it goes out.
We can't promise an owner will reply or sell. We may decline a request, for example when a name looks like someone else's trademark.
7. The deal ledger
When a deal closes, its price and timeline may appear in WantDot's public deal ledger, never with names. Either side can ask us to show a price band instead, or to leave the deal out, at any time.
8. Fair use
Don't use WantDot to harass owners, to send bulk messages, to go after names that belong to someone else's brand, to claim a domain you don't control, or to scrape the site. The connector for AI assistants has its own rate limits. We may refuse or end access for anyone who breaks these rules.
9. Liability
WantDot is provided as it is. We aren't liable for indirect losses, or for the acts of owners, buyers, registrars or Escrow.com. Otherwise our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited, including for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your rights as a consumer under the law where you live.
10. Changes
We'll update these terms as WantDot grows. The date at the top shows the latest version. For a material change, we email people with an active watch, claim, offer or service at least 14 days before it applies. A change never applies to a deal or a paid service that has already started.
