Why it's in the news
OpenAI launched an AI agent called Dots on 30 September 2026. The obvious domain for it, dots.com, isn't OpenAI's, as far as public records show.
dots.com was registered in 1995. Its owner is hidden behind a privacy service, and the registry record hasn't changed since October 2022, so there's no sign it has recently been sold or transferred. It still receives email (its mail is handled by Microsoft 365), which usually means someone is actively using it.
What it means if you want it
A 30-year-old one-word .com that matches a major product launch is about as expensive as a domain gets. If you were planning a product called "Dots", this is the moment to choose a different name: any owner who reads the news knows exactly what it's worth this week.
